Thesen Islands :

Thesen Islands is a one of a kind, award winning marina development. It is spread over 90ha and consists of 19 man-made islands linked by 21 arched bridges and surrounded by 25ha of tidal waterways.

Thesen Islands is a security estate, comprising three different types of properties.
The first two are in the marina section, comprising 489 individual homes and 56 apartment units, known as the Dry Mill apartments. The other properties are located in the Thesen Harbour Town, and consist of : commercial buildings (with a mixture of retail, office space and residential); hotels and guest houses; a small residential section.

The Marina section is where most of the sports and recreation facilities are. This area only has one entrance for vehicles, and one pedestrian entrance – both of these are monitored by security. There are two entrances to the island by boat : one on the south west corner, and one of the south east corner – both these are monitored by cameras.

All of the Dry Mill apartments and most of the homes have their own mooring where residents can keep their boats and kayaks.  Also, a section of the estate is fenced off to act as a nesting area for water birds. There are many kilometers of cycling and jogging paths, 2 tennis courts, a squash court and a private beach.
All the homes are built in a colonial maritime architectural style, and there are no more vacant stands left for development.



Thesen Islands is linked by a causeway and bridge to the mainland, and is within walking distance of the scenic waterfront, yacht harbour and town centre of Knysna.

The waterways are not designed for boats with a deep draught – less than one metre would be advisable, and generally not longer than 6 metres.

An average 3 bedroom home on the canal will cost approximately R3.5M.
Dry Mill Units range from one bedroom penthouses (+_R2M), up to three storey units which can cost up to R6M.
Typically, a 2 bedroom duplex with its own mooring would cost approximately R2.8M.
Three storey units : a 2 bedroom units would cost approximately R2.4M ; a 3 bedroom unit from R4M to R5M, and a 4 bedroom unit with double garage anything from R5M to R7M.
